About
                Karen Charman

I began my career as a journalist covering agriculture in New
Zealand, where I lived from 1983 until 1991.
              After
moving back to the U.S., I attended the Columbia University Graduate
School of Journalism, earning a Masters degree in journalism in
                1993.
              From that
time I freelanced, focusing mainly on agricultural and environmental
issues, for numerous publications including World Watch, Sierra,
On Earth, TomPaine.com, Extra!, The Nation, In These Times, The
Progressive, various New Zealand publications, and several others.
              From the
summer of 2004 until May 2013, I was the managing editor of the
journal Capitalism Nature Socialism, an academic ecosocialist
journal published by Routledge. I am now freelancing again.
